Here is a basic structure for a naming ceremony. This should be used as a guideline only. We can incorporate any readings, songs or other ideas that you may have, to create a ceremony as unique and special as your child.
- Introduction and acknowledgements
- The role of the parents – the honour and challenge of being a parent
- A poem referring to parents love and your wishes for your child
- The role of the Grandparents – love and guidance
- The role of others in a supporting role – Godparents / guardians / mentors
- A reading referring to the wonder of children
- Child’s name – its meaning and why it was chosen
- Naming statement – you may wish to invite all of your guests join in
